Top Chef: The Knives Are Out

It's been a couple of weeks since I made a posting about Top Chef: Las Vegas. It's not that I haven't been watching the show, I've just had a hard time catching it on Wednesday night. Last nights installment was pretty standard stuff. Here are some of my thoughts on the episode:

I'm glad Robin won the quick fire competition especially after several of the other chefs were dumping on her for still being around when (in their opinion) better chefs had already gone home. Michael Isabella, Laurine and Eli were especially classless in this episode and I hope karma comes back soon to smack them in the ass.

I think Ash is a good chef and my dark horse to win the competition but he really needs to get his act together. He's been hovering around the bottom of the quick fire and elimination challenges lately. What's worse is he doesn't seem to be too stressed out about it. The field is narrowing and even mediocre dishes may be the food that sends someone packing.

Judge Toby Young made his return this week. I wish he had stayed in London. The guy is a complete ass hat. He was knocked down a peg at Judge's table by guest judge Michelle Bernstein. I love it!

Finally, I knew that Ron was going to be hitting the road soon. He's had a hard time with the challenges lately and he's been lucky to get this far. I wonder if the language barrier had something to do with his failure to fully understand the deconstruction elimination challenge?

All my dogs are still in the hunt but it wouldn't break my heart to see Mike exit next week. I predict, though, that it will be Laurine or Robin packing their knives.

Were you joking about Ash?

No, I think he's as good as the top half of the competition. He started out really well but I think he's taking unnecessary risks. Custard for the quick fire? Peas as a substitute for potatoes in Sheppard's Pie? He was definitely cooking much better earlier in the season.

Dann: Were you drunk when you wrote your comment? It's a little early in the day to start drinking unless you're me! ;)
