Waiting Alone

The new Shiny Toy Guns video for their song "Waiting Alone." It's kind of a bizarre video, and toward the end a little bit violent. I'm liking the song though! I can't wait for the new album.

Hang With Me

I haven't posted in a while as I was away on another trip to Chicago. I arrived back in Oklahoma City on Monday apparently bringing back with me the the plague. I've been in bed or on the sofa since. Bummer.

I'll post some more once I'm feeling better...

Boomer Sooner

Usually once or twice a season one of my Sooner friends will invite me along to an OU game in Norman. Inevitably at some point I'll complain about the band playing nothing but "Boomer Sooner," the fight song. They just roll their eyes and disparage me by saying I'm just an Aggie fan (by the way Oklahoma State hasn't been officially called Oklahoma A & M since 1957). Finally after some digging I found a blogger for The Phoenix New Times who gets exactly what I'm talking about. In an article listing the top 10 worst college fight songs, the author ranks the Oklahoma Sooners as second worst and goes on to say:

"On January 2, 2008, I had the misfortune of attending the Fiesta Bowl. Even though I was in a suite with free food and beer, what should have been an awesome evening was marred by this one horrible song. OU lost the game by 20 points, but as many times as we heard this song, you'd have thought they were winning by 50. Every score, every first down, every defensive stop, hell, every single break in the action seemed to inspire OU's band to fire this one up again. And again. And again. Not only do they play the shit out of it, but it's not even their song. They ripped it off from Yale. Finally, the lyrics are just fucking inane. 'Boomer sooner, boomer sooner, boomer sooner, boomer sooner.' Dear God, please make it stop."

To make this posting even better and timely the blogger goes on to anoint Florida State with the worst fight song in America:

"Aside from being vaguely racist, this is, quite simply, the most annoying college football marching band song of all time. It has no lyrics, consisting only of a stereotypical Native American war chant. FSU fans perform the 'tomahawk chop' motion with their arms while chanting, a tradition that was later co-opted by Atlanta Braves fans, much to the dismay of the sports-watching world. Other Indian-themed sports teams have mimicked it as well, but nobody does it as obnoxiously, or with such maddening frequency, as the FSU marching band. They might be the world's largest marching band, but they also have the world's shittiest fight song."

So tonight as everyone is watching the number one ranked Sooners take on the number five ranked Seminoles listen hard through those television sets to arguably a battle of the two worst college fight songs in the land.

"I'm a Sooner born and a Sooner bred. And when I die I'll be a Sooner dead.
Rah, Oklahoma! Rah, Oklahoma! Rah, Oklahoma! O-K-U!"

Lord.

Random Music Challenge

Well it's laundry night here in the Bitter household. My MO for doing laundry is pretty much the same: a free night to listening to random music on the computer while drinking beer, tonight is no exception. I set one of my playlists on random and took down some lyrics from each of the first 20 songs. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to see how many of these songs and artists you know (without looking them up online). I'll post the answers by the end of weekend.

These songs are pretty random and should be a good example of how eclectic my music tastes are... Enjoy!

(1) You know you can't fool me, I've been lovin' you too long.

(2) I am a rock, I am an island.

(3) If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?

(4) We can't go on together with suspicious minds and we can't build our dreams on suspicious minds.

(5) With you in that dress my thoughts I confess verge on dirty.

(6) I was a damn builder across the river deep and wide, where steel and water did collide.

(7) I know you'll think I'm like the others before who saw your name and number on the wall.

(8) Counting flowers on the wall that don't bother me at all, playing Solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of 51, smokin' cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo.

(9) Keep your head still, I'll be your thrill, the night will go on, my little windmill.

(10) Slip inside the eye of your mind, don't you know you might find a better place to play.

(11) I can't understand what makes a man hate another man, help me understand.

(12) Well I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damn depressed that I set my sights on Monday and I got myself undressed.

(13) She just can't be chained to a life where nothing's gained and nothing's lost at such a cost.

(14) It's bitter without you, I can't live without you, and I'm in love you.

(15) Chippin' around kick my brains around the floor, these are the days it never rains but it pours.

(16) There where the air is free, we'll be what we want to be.

(17) You're the priestess, I must confess those little red panties they pass the test.

(18) I'm through with doubt, there's nothing left for me to figure out, I've paid a price and I'll keep paying.

(19) It was perfect you know with just one little problem, the fact that it turns out that you don't really want it. (This is a tough one)

(20) Please don't leave me, I always say how I don't need you but it's always gonna come right back to me.

I'm Not Arguing That With You

This is my job:

I posted this clip from "Joe Versus the Volcano" earlier on Facespace. It's true, this is how I feel when I go in to work every single day. I try to get through the day to get off for the evening and I try to get through the week to be off for the weekend. It is fucking killing me. 4 or 5 more months and I'll be out of debt I estimate and then maybe I can find another job even if it's less money. Or better yet I can continue to save a little and maybe move out of the bible belt. Yeah right, a year from now I'll be doing the same thing or something worse, it's in my nature.

I have no one but myself to blame for my misery, not only at work but with my overall pathetic life. I have a special gift of making the worst possible decisions throughout my life starting at about the age of 18. In my entire working career I have given notice to only one job that I was leaving, most of the others I just stopped going in or told my employer to shove it. I have carried some kind of large debt with me all during this time limiting my options as to what I can do with my life. Finally I've been such an asshole over the years to people that I've pretty much run off anyone who's ever given a shit about me (I'm speaking of romantic relationships primarily but this applies to many friends as well).

In addition to all that, I have burned through three long term relationships (one ten years and one six), I've spent two nights in jail in the same year, and I've made an ass out of myself in front of nearly everyone I care about including several family members. Thank goodness I'm not a drunk texter, oh wait... I wish I had Satchel Paige's wisdom: "Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you." But as we all know, hindsight is 20/20 and usually it's a bitch. Humiliation is a deep dark hole I climb in to often.

I started down this line of reflection last night. I was listening to music while I was doing laundry and this song came up on my play list on iTunes:

You know, I thought, I remember hearing this song all the time in 1994. That was a good year. I had moved to a new city recently, was training at what turned out to be a really fun and fantastic job, I had a boyfriend that I lived with, and I was taking college classes at night. As I review the years leading up to now they just don't measure up. I've had some great moments over those years but they've always been filled with ups and downs too.

I'm just so tired and depressed and spent with everything. I needed a way to vent these feelings and the blog felt like a good place. I know these feelings will pass eventually but I know that they will always return as well, as they always have throughout my adulthood.

It's been a while since I've had a "bitter party of one." Thanks for listening, er reading. It looks like my table is ready, now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun

"In a matter of weeks, Oklahoma prosecutors and their assistants will be able to carry guns inside courtrooms."

Why?

I spent a lot of time in Oklahoma County court last year, they already screen people coming into the building via a metal detector. In fact my dad was turned away from the building a couple of times for carrying his pocket knife.

Other places Oklahoma should consider allowing firearms:

Any concerts involving Taylor Swift, you know for suicide purposes.

At the Ford Center for when/if Kobe Bryant returns to OKC. Suck it Lakers!

The State Capital in case the liberals try to mount a siege.

The Oklahoma City Zoo, visitors aren't killing off the animal on the Oklahoma Trail quick enough by throwing debris in their pens.

At Tramps in case Matt tries to play one more Michael Buble song!!

Speaking of guns:

Speaking of Julie Brown:

Cause I'm a Blonde

"I just want to say that being chosen this month's Miss August
Is, like, a compliment that I'll remember for as long as I can.
Right now I'm a freshman in my fourth year at UCLA,
But, my goal is to become a veterinarian 'cause I love children!"

Hilarious. My friend Justin was channeling Julie Brown this weekend while we watched the Oklahoma/Texas game.

Where else do we need guns in Oklahoma?

Kylie and Fergie

Two songs on my mind today for some reason...

Dance, its all I wanna do, so won't you dance?
I'm standing here with you why won't you move?
I'll get inside your groove, cause I'm on fire, fire, fire, fire!

It hurts, when you get too close, but baby it hurts!
If love is really good you just want more,
Even if it throws you to the fire, fire, fire, fire!

And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry

Rain Delay

Gawd, it's been raining all freaking day! How depressing. I took a nap last night before going out and the next thing I know it's midnight. I dragged myself from the sofa to my bed and got up at 6:30 this morning. I don't even get up this early for work! I read some blogs, got ready for the day, and ran some errands, all in a lovely downpour. Apparently Express only has one pair of khaki pants in 31/32 in the entire metro area. I know, I had the man at the store call around. Had lunch alone. And now I think I need a nap, maybe the rain will go away soon...

My favorite song ever.

It is the distance that makes life a little hard
Two minds that once were close now so many miles a part
I will not falter though i'll hold on till your home
Safely back where you belong and see you how our love's grown

Another great one by ATB.

It's the little things that make you crazy
Like the flutter of someone touching your skin
I can see you everywhere I go

Shark in the Water

Digging on this song right now! It's the drag queen in me trying to bust out...

Sometimes I get my head in a dilly
Feeling so lost ticking you off
Now boy, You know me well
Said, I'm that kinda feeling
That kind of soft
That kind of silly

But when I'm in doubt
I open my mouth
And words come out,
words come out like

Baby there's a shark in the water
There's something underneath my bed
Oh, please believe I said
Baby theres a shark in the water
I caught them barking at the moon
Better be soon

High in the sky
the song that I'm singing
A sweet little lie
A cry wolf cry
Rather have you lie
So thats why I'm bringing
some tricks up my sleeve
for noticing me

Oh yeah

I wouldn't cause you any harm
I just want you in my arms
I can't help
I can't help myself

Baby there's a shark in the water
Theres something underneath my bed
Oh please believe I said
Baby there's a shark in the water
I caught them barking at the moon
Better be soon

Better be soon

Right is right
Rules are rules
This is more like april fools
I'm just winding you up, oh

Jack be nimble
Jack be quick
Please don't make to much of it
It aint that serious
oh ohh ohhhh

Baby theres a shark in the water
Theres something underneath my bed
Oh, please believe I said
Baby theres a shark in the water
I caught them barking at the moon
You better get here soon
Baby theres a shark in the water
I caught them barking at the moon
Better be soon
